Grandma's Marathon news
Organizers of this year's 35th Grandma's Marathon are taking nominations for the 2011 Rudy Perpich Public Service Award through April 15. The award is presented annually to a current or former public employee or elected official "who has exhibited extreme dedication to Grandma's Marathon by providing a tremendous amount of energy and service to the annual running of our events."
Last year, Lake County Highway Engineer Al Goodman won an award for his help in keeping the racing surface in the county in top shape. Bob Brandt from the county highway department won the award in 2006, the inaugural year of the award named after Perpich, the former Minnesota governor and big supporter of the race.
The marathon runs from just south of Two Harbors along Scenic Highway 61 into Duluth. This year's race is set for June 18.
A nomination application is available at GrandmasMarathon.com or by calling 727-0947.
