Contest challenges Lake County students to draw 'home'
Elementary students from Two Harbors and Silver Bay will participate in a coloring contest to raise awareness for a foundation helping area homeowners in need.
The Realtors as Neighbors Foundation is sponsoring the contest and will give away a total of $900 to kindergarten through third-grade classrooms that participate by coloring in pictures of a home. Photos of the drawings will be posted on the Realtors as Neighbors Foundation Facebook page and the posts with the most likes will win, according to second-year board member Katie Robinson.
"Our goal is to get kiddos thinking about 'What does home means to you?'" Robinson said.
The winning classroom will earn $500, second place will earn $250 and third place will earn $150.
Robinson said she hopes the posts will reach homeowners along the North Shore — either current or future — that might need assistance from the organization. The organization provide grants for natural disaster relief, homebuyer education services, homeowner assistance and community relief organizations.
Each classroom will provide three to five drawings to the contest, but all of the drawing will be up at the Lake Superior Association of Realtors office.
Look forward, Robinson hopes to expand the contest to schools in Cloquet, Esko and Duluth.
