William Kelley School students enjoyed some late winter fun last week, hiking, skiing, fishing and just being outdoors.

The fifth- and sixth-graders from Silver Bay hiked out to Bean Lake in Tettegouche State Park on March 12 and spent the day fishing and roasting hotdogs over a fire. Older students from the William Kelley High School hiked out to Micmac Lake in Tettegouche State Park on March 10 and were able to participate in water testing, ice fishing, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, snow games, creative writing and a history tour of the area.

"This was a great opportunity for the students to learn in a unique, stimulating setting, outside the school walls, yet in our own backyard," said Leah Bott, agriculture, food and natural resource instructor and Statewide Health Improvement coordinator for Lake Superior School District.
