Shop class hot rod lawnmower tradition continues

Ready, set, mow? THHS shop students Brad Smith, Levi Crackel, Tyler Cavallin, Laura Fabini and Brandon Zapolski built ‘cooler than stock’ lawn mowers. The project required the application of a variety of skills learned in class.

THHS senior shop students from the Metals and Mechanics II class carried on the tradition of building hot rod lawnmowers.

The project allows students to use all of their shop skills such as fabrication, welding, machine tool and mechanics. The project involves finding an old lawn tractor and customizing and modifying it to make it “cooler than stock.”

Some of the projects involved other than stock engines fitting into chassis- which requires fabricating motor mounts, clutch linkages, battery boxes, changing pulleys and belts and, of course, an awesome exhaust system.
