Silver Bay Council sets prelim budget, levy

The Silver Bay City Council approved a preliminary budget and levy at its meeting Tuesday.

The levy was preliminary set at an increase of 7.4 percent. The levy increase will allow $25,000 for street repairs, $20,000 for capital improvements and $51,145 for the general fund. The city is still budgeting for the campground development at Black Beach. The city is also carrying over capital improvements to the City Hall roof and HVAC system and the street department wall and roof repairs.

The budget also includes funds for engineering and financial planning for the Citywide Street Improvement Project, upgrading the interior of Reunion Hall, maintaining the Neighborhood Revitalization Program, the sale of the greenhouse for privatization, water improvement project to loop the city's water system, sewer bridge repairs, a preliminary treatment project for the wastewater plant, equipment purchases and improvements to lighting at the Mary Mac Building.

The council set the truth and taxation hearing for Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Also at the meeting, the council approved making an Olympia Ice Resurfacer and Thompsen Ice Edger surplus property to be sold. A resolution to approve accepting a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Forestry Grant to purchase structural turnout gear for the Silver Bay Fire Department was tabled after Councilor Dustin Goutermont was paged out on a call. Due to three of the five councilors serving on the fire department, a unanimous vote by all five councilors is required to approve anything regarding the fire department.
