Snowmobile-related incident claims life
The victim of a snowmobile related incident in Lake County Tuesday has been identified as 32-year old Davis Hartshorn of Finland.
Lake County Sheriff Carey Johnson said that the deputy who investigated the incident, however, didn't find evidence indicating that Hartshorn's death was due to an accident as had originally been reported.
"He was slumped over the snowmobile, somewhat on the snowmobile and somewhat off, but there was no damage to the snowmobile and it hadn't struck anything," Johnson said. "We're not sure what happened or whether he had an underlying medical condition. We're not sure what caused it, but that's what we're going to find out."
According to Scott Johnson, a family friend, the family believes that Hartshorn may have suffered a heart attack, but they're awaiting the results of an autopsy. Scott Johnson said that Hartshorn was a father and had recently completed a millwright apprenticeship.
"He was a great person who just turned his life around so his death was a complete surprise to everyone," he said.
"I can say he went out doing something he loved."
Members of the Lake County Rescue Squads, Lake County Ambulance Service and the Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to the call.
