Finland News: Sept. 13

Save the Booya will be holding their celebration on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Clair Nelson Center. Stop out for a fun day.

Victor Gaultaey and family were in the area recently and spent some time at their homestead. Victor is the son of the late Pirkko Hill Gaultaey. They also took in the Tori at the historical site.

On Wednesday evening, several members of Zion motored to Mountain Iron to Messiah Lutheran Church. Pastor Kristin Foster and others made the evening very special for Zion. It was very enjoyable with great music, worship and conversation. Lorraine Erickson, a previous resident of Finland who now lives in Virginia, also came and had a visit with those attending from Zion.

Andrew Carlson, a previous pastor at Zion, spent a few days this past weekend in the area enjoying the North Shore and visiting with friends.

The Zion Lutheran Church rebuilding committee is meeting regularly. The 18-person committee is made up of Zion members and residents of the Finland community. Clean-up of the building site was delayed briefly while materials were tested for asbestos. The work to restore the church site will begin this week.

Bob, Gayle, Gary Nikolai, Jim, Verna, Chris, Michael, Karen and Graylan Sinderman, Ruth Himes and Judy Martell attended the funeral service for brother-in-law and uncle, Larry Striker, on Monday, Sept. 9, at the Good Shepherd Church in Princeton, Minn. Larry died Sept. 4 in the Foley Nursing Home after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 63. The burial will be at the Crystal Bay Cemetery in Finland later this fall. Deepest sympathy goes out to family and friends.
