North Shore Library News: March 28

Silver Bay Public Library News

In the last Library News we discussed “Brainfuse,” the new database available on the Arrowhead Library System site. We touched on JobNow, a portion of Brainfuse.

With your free library card you have access to job search tools, resume writing and templates.

There are also selected online resources and interview coaches to help you land that job.

With HelpNow, students of all levels can get expert help from live, online tutors.

Some of the areas covered in the HelpNow area of Brainfuse are:

Live Help: Live online help from expert tutors.

Skills Building: Brush up or catch up with a live tutor.

Writing lab: Expert online writing assistance.

Language lab: Live help for language learners.

Test Center: Prepare for exams using practice tests.

FlashBulb: Create and prepare flashcards, tests and games.

Brainwave: Create and share movie-like notes and ideas.

This is just a sample of what’s available. In order to see Brainfuse and really appreciate all it can do for you, go to and check out the services for library patrons. You’ll find Brainfuse under the link for magazines and other databases.

Duluth Playhouse Presents: The Yard Bizarre!

This event will be a fabulously curious poetical spectacle of fun for everyone. It will take place on Friday, April 4, at 2 p.m. in the Silver Bay Public Library and is sponsored by the library with funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Fund.

Teen Corner

The local Teen Anime Club will be meeting on Saturday, March 29, in the THPL meeting room. We have subscriptions to both Funimation and Crunchyroll, so a ton of anime is available. We’ve already watched some “Darker Than Black,” “Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle,” “Durarara,” “Attack on Titan,” and more! Attendees will have an opportunity to vote on the episodes we watch, so if you have a favorite you’d like to share, or a new title you’d like to try, this is a great opportunity.

Also, for those teens who participated in the teen winter reading program,” Zombie Read,” and didn’t pick up their prizes, stop by the library. Our final batch of zombie ducks and glow-in-the-dark mice have finally arrived.

Kids’ Corner

Friday, April 4, at 11:30 a.m., in the Two Harbors Public Library, the Duluth Playhouse and The Boogers are going to present “The Yard Bizarre,” a fabulously poetical and curious spectacle about a group of kids hiding away their favorite possessions before they can be sold in their parents’ rummage sale. The same show will be travelling up to the Silver Bay Public Library later that afternoon. The SBPL performance will be at 2:00 pm. Attend the show that best fits your schedule, or attend both of them! This is a great family program paid for by Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and arranged by the Arrowhead Library System.
