Bands jam high school

Two Harbors High School hosted the regional Middle School Band Solo and Ensemble Festival April 8. About 250 fifty students in grades 6-8 from Cromwell, Hermantown, International Falls, Wrenshall and Two Harbors presented a variety of solos and ensembles in front of a judge and audience.

Students were judged on tone quality, intonation, rhythm, balance and blend, technique, musicianship and interpretation, articulation, control of the instrument, appropriate appearance, choice of literature, general conduct, mannerisms, poise, and posture. Students performed in one of three centers specific to percussion, brass, and woodwinds.

On May 6 Two Harbors will host another Middle School Band Festival with entire bands being critiqued by a panel of three judges. The event is free and open to the public.

Band doings

- The Two Harbors High School Band and Two Harbors City Band are rehearsing together next week for the annual combined concert at 7:30 p.m. May 2 at the school auditorium.

- Bands from grades 6-8 perform May 3. The annual jazz and pie social is May 9. Both events begin at 7 p.m. at the school.

- Band members and other school music participants are gearing up for the Minnesota State High School League state contest at the school April 28-29.
