A day of fun is on the house at Camp House

The sign at the entrance to Camp House has been greeting campers for 80 years. On June 28, Green Lake Lutheran Ministries, will be hosting an open house and picnic dinner there from 4-8 p.m. Camp House is located at 1141 Camp House Rd., Brimson. Photo courtesy of Green Lake Lutheran Ministries

Just outside of Brimson, kids have been spending their summers swimming, paddling and making life-long memories for decades. Camp House has been a fixture in the area for over 80 years, first providing recreational opportunities for the children of railroad employees.

Now owned and updated by Green Lake Lutheran Ministries, the 120- acre facility on the shores of Lake George is open to all. On Saturday, June 28, an open house is being held at the camp to encourage folks to revisit their past Camp House experiences or consider the facility for future adventures.

“(The camp has) a close connection with the community,” summer director Dave Eliason said. “So many people have history there that we want them to know they’re still welcome to come.” The open house will include tours of the grounds and buildings, with a chance to view camp artifacts and historical photographs. Board members will be on hand to meet and greet visitors, but there’s no fixed schedule or agenda, and no cost.

“Everything will be on the house that day,” Eliason punned. “People can sit in an Adirondack chair on the beach and share stories and memories and a meal will be available all day, so whenever people come, they can have a picnic.” For those who are in the mood to stretch their legs, the tennis, basketball and volleyball courts will be open, too.

To arrange for a longer stay at Camp House, families and groups may call 218-848-2277 or use Green Lake Lutheran Ministries online registration site at

“We welcome everyone,” said Eliason, "one and all.”
