Youth Have Until August 17 to Apply for Special Deer Hunt Permit
The Department of Natural Resources has announced that Minnesota youth ages 12-15 have until Friday, August 17, to apply to participate in special youth deer hunts in October.
According to Mike Kurre, mentoring program coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, "Youth deer hunts provide the much needed time away from a hectic lifestyle, and the quality time you need to connect a youth with an outdoors adventure."
The youth deer hunt in Lake County will be at Tettegouche State Park, October 20-21. Ten permits will be available. If the number of applications exceeds the number of permits, a lottery will be conducted. Applications can be submitted to a DNR licensing agent or online at www.mndnr.gov/buyalicense.
Youth who participate in the special youth hunt may still hunt during the regular hunting season, but deer harvested will count against the youth's season bag limit.
Youth must be accompanied by an adult, but the adult mentor may not hunt. Both parties must attend a mandatory orientation session before the hunt, meet firearms safety requirements and buy necessary licenses.
