Katarina Hansen of Two Harbors won the “Right Stuff” award at the Space Academy in Huntsville, Ala., earlier this month.

The homeschooled seventh grader earned the honor after attending a five-day camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Aerospace operations manager, Matthew Harris, said the award is given to the individual who best personifies the spirit of the Space Academy during his or her time there.

“(Katarina) stood up and stood out, whether it was her encouraging attitude or her motivational words to her fellow students. She was enthusiastic throughout the week and greatly helped her team and her counselor; she truly was the right stuff,” Harris told Katarina’s mother.

Katrina and her mother, Mary Hansen, live in Two Harbors.
