Volunteer spotlight: Fridays in the Park needs you
Fridays in the Park needs your help to bring free, family-friendly music to Two Harbors this summer. Arts on Superior is launching a fund raising campaign to ensure that Fridays in the Park happen in 2014. A generous donation from the Two Harbors Area Fund will provide music for three nights but help is needed to bring great music to the area for the remaining four Fridays of the season.
Fridays in the Park 2014 will include:
Aug. 15- Claudia Schmidt
Aug. 22- TheTret Fure Band
Aug. 29- Lojo Russo
Your donations will bring these artists to the stage at Thomas Owens Park:
July 18 – Moors & McCumber
July 25 – Dan Newton: Daddy Squeeze;Aug. 1 – Phil Nusbaum & the Blue Drifters
Aug. 8 – Michael Monroe.
For each $1,000 received one artist will be confirmed beginning with Michael Monroe and working backwards.
“Arts on Superior is also looking for arts angels who will to go door to door seeking donations for Fridays in the Park. With 10-20 arts angels, every person in the city could be contacted in just one day,” said Arts on Superior’s Linda Melcher. While larger donations will mean that artists can be booked more quickly, smaller amounts are equally important.
“Every contribution matters. If each person in Two Harbors gave $2, we could make our goal of $6,000. If you can give more, please do, it would be greatly appreciated,” said Melcher. “Fridays in the Park is one of the only ongoing programs in Two Harbors each summer. The free, family-friendly concerts bring extended families together for an hour and a half of great music by touring artists and provide arts programming for visitors to our city.”
Several incentive gifts are being offered for larger contributions:
$25 – free commemorative CD from 2013; $50
$100 free Arts on Superior embroidered cap (this amount supports posters for one night’s concert.)
$250 – acknowledgment as a co-sponsor for night’s concert
$500 - $1,000 – acknowledgment as a sponsor for one of the evening’s performances.
“Let’s pull together as a community and make seven nights of free, family-friendly music a reality again this summer, “ Melcher said.
