Tentative purchase agreement between SB and Northshore Mining

The City of Silver Bay has reached a tentative purchase agreement with Cliffs Northshore Mining to buy the property upon which the city shop was built. The property houses the city’s maintenance garage and storage. City Administrator Lana Fralich received approval from the council on Dec. 16 to delay the closing proceedings until March of 2014 during which time titling issues will be ironed out.

In other council news, the council approved resolution 2013-49, amending city code chapter 12, and clarifying allowing for the construction of a self-storage unit. The proposed unit would be located east of the football field behind the shopping center.

On Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. the Beaver Bay Community Center will be hosting an informational meeting of the Lake county Sex Trafficking Task Force. The purpose of the meeting is to build awareness in the community of this issue.

There was a closed and special meeting of the council on Dec. 23 for discussion concerning labor negotiations.

The appointment of Tom Peterson to the Public Works Commission was approved by the council.
