Silver Bay upsets Two Harbors in volleyball
In the last regular volleyball game on Tuesday, the Silver Bay Mariners tallied their first win of the season against the Two Harbors Agates at home.
It was a thrilling match, with the win coming down to the last 15-point set. Silver Bay won the first set 25-12, but Two Harbors came back ferociously in the next two sets, winning them both 20-25. Silver Bay took the fourth 25-21 and carried that momentum into the fifth match, winning it 15-12.
"It was exciting to go into five games," Two Harbors coach Beth Innis said. "Silver Bay played a lot better in this game than they did at the tournament (that Two Harbors hosted Oct. 5). They kind of took our girls by surprise."
Junior Sydney Topp had 10 kills and five ace serves for the Mariners. Junior Ally Kloster also had 10 ace serves and freshman Brooke McMillen had 16 ace serves. For the Agates, senior Lane Schraufnagel had five kills and eight ace serves, senior Krista Keranen had eight kills and nine digs and senior Mia Minkkinen had 14 ace serves and nine digs.
Both teams will start playoffs next week, with their first games on Wednesday.
