Siiri C. Hiltunen

Siiri C. Hiltunen, age 97, of Minneapolis, passed away Dec. 7.

Siiri was born to Finnish settlers May 23, 1916, in Toimi, Minn.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lydia and Peter Hiltunen; siblings, Tom, Donald , and Irene.

She is survived by sister, Ellen Erickson; brother Robert; nieces, Janice and Elenore; nephews, William and Karl; great nephew, John, all on the west coast.

She attended Toimi School through the eight grade. All Finnish children in the area went to this school in the early 1900's. Dedicated volunteers are continuing to work on the restoration and maintenance of this historic landmark. Siiri graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1935. Siiri retired after a long career of public service in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C., St. Paul and Minneapolis. Starting in 1942, she rose through the ranks to become office supervisor of the FBI in Minneapolis. She received numerous awards for excellence. Siiri's strong Finnish SISU, generous nature and cheerful personality will be missed by many. A memorial service was held Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Walker Methodist Healthcare Center Chapel in Minneapolis. She will be interred at the Toimi Cemetery at a later date. memorials are preferred to the Toimi School, c/o Robert Kari, 2456 W.
