Shop Local contest kicks off next Thursday

The Two Harbors Chamber of Commerce Shop Local contest kicks off next Thursday for the second year.

The concept is simple — local kids earn points when family members and friends make purchases at local retailers within the 834 phone exchange and take their receipts to True Value Hardware on First Avenue in Two Harbors. Kids earn a point for every dollar spent, and there are some big prizes up for grabs.

Instead of giving the prizes to the top three winners like last year, the Chamber decided to try a different approach — each boy and girl in 1st, 4th and 10th place at the end of the contest, Dec. 22, wins a prize.

First place winners get a Samsung Galaxy Tab4, those in fourth place will get a 32-inch television and the 10th place winners get a party package, including an AmericInn pool party, two large Do North pizzas, six Harbor Theater movie tickets, a $50 Shopko gift card and one Dairy Queen cake.

To sign up a kid 16 and under for the contest fill out a registration form and drop it off at True Value Hardware Store, 610 1st Ave., Two Harbors. Forms are available at R.J. Houle Information Center or True Value, and most kids in Two Harbors will be getting the registration form sent home with them. Contact the Chamber at 834-2600 or stop by the information center at 1330 Hwy. 61 for a full copy of the rules

The Shop Local contest is sponsored by Lake Connections, Lake Bank, Jones Cleaning, Re/Max Prodigy, Two Harbors Federal Credit Union, PureDriven, Bodies in Balance, Hoeft Design, True Value, Sonju, O'Reilly's, ShopKo, EMS, Wells Fargo, Dairy Queen, Country Inn of Two Harbors, Harbor Theater, Do North Pizza, Gooseberry Park Cottages & Motel, Two Harbors Area Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, Lake County News-Chronicle, Vanilla Bean and AmericInn.
