Partners in Living Well: Upcoming social occasions
Socially Active Seniors
Haven’t we been fortunate with comfortable weather this summer, with only a handful of hot and humid days? The other sunny days remind us of how fortunate we are to be air conditioned by our great lake. I hope you have had enjoyable outings, visits from families on vacation and all the simple pleasures that summer lavishes on us. Here are three social occasions that I highly recommend taking advantage of:
Aug. 13: Socially Active Seniors and AGE to age are partnering to send a bus to the Duluth Zoo. The bus will leave around 11:45 a.m. with convenient pick up locations like Laura Lane, the Depot, and last but not least, Minnehaha Elementary School to pick up the 3-5 graders. The ride to the zoo will take 45 minutes, and ice cream bars will be offered for a snack at the park near the gate before touring the zoo. Water bottles will be provided. Estimated time to view the animals is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. There is an opportunity to sit down and be shown birds and other animals with their education program. It is comfortably accessible but if you feel you need assistance getting around, please invite a friend to offer you support. There is no cost involved. The bus will arrive back in Two Harbors by 4 p.m. Please call Arna at (218) 525-4534 for reservations by Aug. 10. This trip was organized by the interns working with AGE to Age.
Aug. 14: Senior Day at the Lake County Fair. The senior luncheon starts at 12:30 p.m. There will be music by Mel Annala, door prizes and the announcement of the winner of the Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award for this area. The fair grounds are open from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. Since it is senior day, there is no entrance fee for those 65 and older. You must have a ticket for the luncheon. There is a limit of 125 seats and the tickets are available at Community Partners at the Bayview Terrace building on 505 1st Ave., Two Harbors. You can call Community Partners at (218) 834-8024 to reserve your tickets.
Aug. 20: SAS invites you to our annual picnic at Lakeview Park, beginning at noon. The food will be delicious and the entertainment is none other than the Two Harbors Ukulele Group. They really know how to entertain by playing old time favorites and new surprises. The cost is $5 and you can make your reservations by calling Arna at (218) 525-4534 by Aug. 17.
If you haven’t seen and purchased the newly published SAS Cookbook called “Hey Good Lookin, What’s Cookin”, they will be on sale at the Lake County Fair Senior Day luncheon at a table near the dining area. We will have them available at other upcoming SAS events as well. The cost is $12.
I look forward to seeing you at these events.
