Partners in Living Well: April will be busy for North Shore seniors
From Arna Rennan
March 20 was the official beginning of spring. Based on the longer days of sunlight, I’m optimistic, but I’m also confused by the string of fish houses on the lake and intermittent blasts of snow, cold and then slush again. My go- to phrase for enduring some sort of challenge is: “Winter always turns to spring.”
The calendar of activities for Socially Active Seniors begins with an invitation to dinner, Sat. April 5, 4:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m., at The Two Harbors High School cafeteria. If we form a group, the cost will be discounted from $12 to $10. I’m told that the menu consists of pesto and chicken, rice pilaf, vegetable, roll, and a pie from Rustic Inn. The National Honor Society will be dressed up and ready to serve you with elegance. So, simply call Community Partners at 218-834-8024 and mention you are with SAS. The ticket for the Lake Superior Community Theater’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof” is an additional $12. Live music and performance, lovely food with good company...how much better can it get?
On Wednesday, April 23, there will be a presentation by Randy Ellestad at the Two Harbors Community Center. He will share his extensive knowledge of the Viking ship that sailed from Korgen, Norway to Duluth in 1939. Randy says it is a “human story” and one well worth hearing. The presentation begins at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow.
A gourmet meal will be served at Duluth East high School on Wednesday, April 30, and you are invited! Lunch will be at 12 p.m. Glen D’Amour is a master chef who instructs students in preparing foods. His program is called “Food for Thought”. There will be a set menu at a reasonable price. SAS will be paying for the AEOA transportation to the school. Mark your calendars; this should also be a very enjoyable event.
Remember, if you need transportation to any of our events, we do have volunteers who would be happy to give you a ride.
On behalf of the Board of Socially Active Seniors, we are here to make it a Happy Spring.
We look forward to seeing you!
