Former Congressman Rick Nolan has won the endorsement of delegates at the 8th Congressional District Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party convention today at Spirit Mountain in Duluth.

Nolan won the endorsement on the first ballot, receiving 133 of 175 votes cast. Other vote totals included 17.5 for former Duluth City Councilor Jeff Anderson, 21.5 for no endorsement and three uncommitted.

Although Nolan now can claim the party endorsement, it is likely that he will be joined by Anderson and former Minnesota state Sen. Tarryl Clark in an August DFL primary to determine who will face incumbent Republican Chip Cravaack in November's general election.

The Democratic Party has placed an emphasis on beating Cravaack this fall, after he ousted longtime Democratic Rep. Jim Oberstar in 2010.

Clark did not participate in Saturday's endorsing convention. Nolan also won the support of DFL caucus-goes in the 8th District in February.
