120 attend meet at Knife River
The meeting of the Lake County Development Association at Knife River last Friday night was a success from a standpoint of attendance, 120 having been served by the Ladies’ Aid society. The program, too, was varied and interesting.
Judge C.R. Magney, the principal speaker, told of the struggles to have the North Shore Scenic Drive established, and ventured the opinion that if enough pressure is continued to be brought to bear, the location of the highway at Pigeon River will be placed where it belongs, on the shore of Lake Superior.
He pointed to the accomplishment of the Gunflint Resort Keepers’ Association in having the signs made uniform and attractive, and advocated a like step on the highway between Duluth and Grand Marais, with more signs directing the beauty spots, many of which are missed by tourists.
Fred Thias and Boyd Helgeson led the community singing, Guy Hallock gave a group of novelty piano numbers, and Miss Audrey Puent tap danced with Miss Jeanette Larson at the piano.
