Lake and Cook counties awarded additional funds from emergency food and shelter program
Cook and Lake Counties have been chosen to receive an additional $8,784.00 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
The local Emergency Food and Shelter Board (EFSP), similar in composition to the national board, will determine how the funds awarded to St. Louis County will be distributed among the area's emergency food and shelter programs run by local agencies.
Public or private voluntary organizations interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must contact Valerie Strukel, Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency, 702 Third Avenue South, Virginia, MN 55792 or call 1-800-662-5711 ext. 234 to receive and application. The deadline to apply is Monday July 22, at 4:30 p.m.
Under the terms of the grant, local organizations chosen to receive funds must be voluntary nonprofits or units of government, be eligible to receive federal funds have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination and have demonstrated the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs. If they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.
