Holiday volunteer opportunities to warm the heart
Lake County nonprofit organizations are gearing up for the holidays and you can be part of the action. How about helping out as a Salvation Army bell ringer or with Salvation Army toy distribution? There's the United Way Breakfast with Santa and many other events which happen in our area each December. They continue because of the work of hundreds of volunteers.
The Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency, Inc.- RSVP has teamed with organizations in the Two Harbors area to let everyone know about volunteer opportunities such as those listed above, or helping with holiday decorating at a local senior care center.
"It is a quick turn- around from Thanksgiving to Christmas this year; we need as many hands as are willing to hang lights, put up trees and add the holiday cheer to our halls," said Mistyn Haig, activities director at Ecumen Scenic Shores . Not much of a decorator? How about helping an elder neighbor who needs a hand with shopping, making Christmas cookies or addressing holiday cards?
The holidays can be a challenging time for friends and neighbors who are home bound or far from family members. Community Partners, serving older adults, can connect volunteers with folks in need of a little extra assistance.
This is the perfect opportunity for those who don't have lots of time to give back in a one-time volunteer opportunity.
