Five injured in accident north of Two Harbors
Five people were injured Thursday afternoon when a semi-truck rear ended a Ford Explorer in the northbound lane Highway 61 near County Road 3, about 2 miles north of Two Harbors.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Jacob Leo Hertel, 38, of Lester Prairie, Minn., was the driver of the SUV. He was waiting in the northbound lane of Highway 61 to make a left turn onto County Road 3 when David Hansen, 20, of Lutsen, Minn., rear ended him at highway speeds in a semi-truck at 12:48 p.m.
Hertel and his four passengers, also from Lester Prairie, were all injured in the accident, including another adult and three kids aged 10, 8 and 1. The driver of the semi-truck had no apparent injuries.
The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Two Harbors Police Department.
