Storm hockey

The Storm suffered a couple of one-goal losses on the road before recovering to get a one-goal win at home. They fell 4-3 at Ashland, 2-1 at Coleraine to Greenway and won 3-2 at Two Harbors over Eveleth-Gilbert.

At Ashland, Zach Halbec and Zach Unseth put the Oredockers up 2-0 after one, and Tanner Hicks made it 3-0 in the second. After Jonah Koehler cut it to 3-1, Tate Warren scored what proved to be the game winner and it was 4-1 after two. Koehler's second goal of the game cut it to 4-2 with 3:45 left to play, and 27 seconds later Quaid Cavallin made it a one goal game; that proved to be the final score. Zach Duresky had 26 stops for the Storm and Dylan Barnes had 27 for Ashland as each team put 30 shots on goal.

At Coleraine, Kole Kalisch put the Raiders up 1-0 with a power-play goal with 18 seconds left in the first period. Two minutes into period two Austin Sanderson made it 2-0 in favor of the Raiders. Thomas Anderson, with assists from Tyler Schramm and Mike Nordean, made it a one- goal game four minutes later, and it was 2-1 going into the third, which proved to be scoreless. The Storm outshot the Raiders every period for a total of 33-22. Durtesky finished with 20 saves and Austin Anick of the Raiders had 32.

The Storm came from behind to defeat Eveleth-Gilbert 3-2 at Two Harbors. Sam Roberts gave Eveleth a 1-0 lead after one, and Mills Johnson tied it up for the Storm at 4:08 of the second. One minute later, Eveleth took back the lead with a score from Nick Przybylski. Then Ville Vuori took over for the Storm and tied it up with assists from Johnson and Ryan Rasmussen a 1:58 of the third. At 4:29 he scored the game winner with the aid of Chad Smuk. Duresky finished with 23 stops and Chad Hietela of Eveleth had 22.

Mariners Hockey

The Mariner girls were shut out twice at home before falling 6-1 to Hibbing. They lost 3-0 to Hayward and 6-0 to International Falls.

Hayward got its game winner 56 seconds into the game on a power-play goal from Cheyenne Turnbull. Second period goals from Alex Grubbs and Dakota Disher concluded the game's scoring. The Mariners outshot the Hurricanes 12-8 in the first and were outshot 20-6 the rest of the way. Sara Carman finished with 25 saves for the Mariners.

International Falls scored four times in the first to cement its victory over the Mariners. Amy Auran and Katie West each had two goals for the Broncos in the opening session. Lexi Erickson and Hillary Fox scored the last two Bronco goals. Carman had 28 saves as the Broncos outshot the Mariners 34-18.

The girls gave Hibbing a much tougher battle than their first encounter which was a 9-0 loss. Lilly Rewertz scored twice for the Bluejackets, Erin Scovill had a goal and three assists and Maddy Roberts had a goal and two assists. Anna Carman scored the Mariner goal with an assist from Madison Roy. Sara Carman had a busy night in the Mariner nets with 46 stops while Hannah Wentland had 14 for Hibbing.

The girls are at Long Prairie tonight to play the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek Blue Devils and tomorrow they are at Litchfield to play the Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Blue Devils. Thursday they are Superior for their next- to- last regular season game of the year.

The boys host Bagley/Fosston at Silver Bay tonight and Tuesday they host International Falls at Two Harbors. Both basketball teams are at Cook County tonight and the boys host Esko on Monday.
