The Mariner softball team is now unbeaten in their first four games. They opened the season with a 14-1 five inning win at Hoyt Lakes over Mesabi East. They followed that up with a 21-5 five-inning win over Mountain Iron-Buhl at Mountain Iron. Taylor Guzzo picked the wins in each game on the mound.
At Hoyt Lakes Guzzo had two hits including a three-run double. Marina Carter drove in two with a double and Katie Smedstad had two RBIs. At Mountain Iron, Carter and Guzzo each had three hits. In their other game at Proctor, the game was suspended after four innings with the game tied at seven. It seems no one thought to bring the key for the lights for the game started at 6 p.m. in early April. They will try to complete the game at the Pine City tournament.
