On June 4, this year’s Two Harbors-Silver Bay American Legion baseball team, the Rivals, took the field, taking on the Moose Lake Outlaws. The Rivals had their hitting shoes on as they took the first game with a score of 10-3. Star hitters for the game were Lucas Kempffer going three for three, with four RBIs and two runs scored. Kyler Kinn was two for three with two RBIs, and Kyle Omtvedt was two for two with two RBIs. The Rivals totaled 12 hits for the game. Omtvedt also pitched five strong innings, getting the win and giving up three hits. Mark Pearson added two innings of no-hit ball. In the night cap the Rivals won by a score of 13-3. Zach Duresky, Kempffer, and Pearson lead the hitting with two hits apiece, with Kempffer again having four RBIs. As a tea, the Rivals had nine hits and 11 walks. Tim Bott took the pitching honors with six strong innings of three- hit ball.
The second game started and was called after two innings with the Rivals up 14-3. That game will be restarted in Silver Bay on July 10 at 5:30 p.m.
The Rivals travel to Duluth East today to take on Lakeview at 6 p.m. Their next home game will be on June 16 against Taconite, a very strong league foe from Greenway, at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, June 17, they will travel to Deer River for another double header. Come out and support your Rivals on June 16.
