Agate swimmers advance to state meet

After a successful run at the Section 7A meet today, three Agate swimmers advanced to the state meet which takes place Nov. 18-20 in the Twin Cities.

Three Agates advanced to the State Tournament in swimming by performing strong at the Section 7A finals today at Duluth East High School.

Junior Leann Fynboh and sophomore Marina Schreiner are returning to state for the second time this year. Both placed placed second in their events at sections, and the top two finishers advance. Fynboh will be competing in the 50-yard freestyle and Schreiner in the 500-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Allie Mayfield will be making her first trip to state and competing in two events. She advanced in the 200-yard freestyle by placing second and defeated Schreiner in the 500 freestyle finals by just under two-tenths of a second to go on to state.

The success is no surprise for the unstoppable Agates, who have now gone three seasons undefeated in dual meets. The team as a whole tallied an impressive 2nd place at the section meet today to end the season on a high note.

The state meet takes place Nov. 18-20 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

The News-Chronicle will have more coverage of the swim team in next week's issue.
