The Tettegouche State Park visitor center outside Silver Bay will host an art show by Minneapolis artist Greg Lecker starting Friday, Dec. 1.

Despite being raised in the Twin Cities, Lecker has spent time at some friends' cabin on the North Shore, where its natural beauty has inspired his art. The show, "Transported on Colored Waters," features 30 landscape oil paintings displayed at the Tettegouche visitor center.

Lecker's paintings explore the themes of travel, journey and color used to transport light. The paintings sometimes challenge viewers about what they see, according to a press release. Lecker typically paints outside, communicating his experiences in "real time" with passersby in urban and park settings.

Lecker will be present a landscape painting demonstration from 2:30-4 p.m. Dec. 1 at the visitor center. The art opening from 7-8:30 p.m. will feature a brief talk by Lecker, live music, food and drinks.

The visitor center gallery, free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, is located at 5702 Highway 61, 4.5 miles north of Silver Bay. For more information or directions, call Tettegouche State Park at (218) 353-8800.
